The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kerala and several northeastern states, warning of extremely heavy rainfall on May 30. According to the latest forecast, strong weather activity is expected across northwest and southern India over the coming days.

This alert comes as two upper air cyclonic circulations—one over west Rajasthan and the other over northern central Uttar Pradesh—are influencing weather patterns. Due to this, many parts of northwest India are likely to experience widespread thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.

In the northeast, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh today. Kerala is also expected to receive very heavy showers on May 30, with more rain predicted for June 1 and 2.

The IMD has also highlighted the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on May 30 and 31. Similar conditions are likely in Himachal Pradesh on May 31 and June 1, and in Uttarakhand from May 30 to June 2.

An orange alert has been issued for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, and West Bengal. The department has also warned of possible dust storms in isolated areas of West Rajasthan today.

In the south, coastal Karnataka is likely to see isolated heavy rainfall on May 31 and June 1, while South Interior Karnataka may experience fresh wet spells starting today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Karnataka today.

As Delhi braces for a possible thunderstorm, residents across many states are advised to stay alert and follow safety precautions during extreme weather conditions.
