Chandigarh, September 19, 2025 – The Chandigarh Traffic Police has launched a new ‘Safe Drive 2025’ campaign as part of the ongoing ‘Seva Pakhwada 2025’ initiative, with the goal of making city roads safer and reducing the number of traffic accidents to zero.
The campaign, which runs from September 18 to October 1, 2025, focuses on spreading awareness about road safety among drivers, two-wheeler riders, pedestrians, and students. Chandigarh Police officials announced that a series of special drives, workshops, and awareness programs will be held during this period to encourage responsible driving behavior.
Senior officials from the UT Police Department emphasized that road accidents are one of the leading causes of injuries and deaths in urban areas. The ‘Safe Drive 2025’ campaign aims to educate citizens about wearing helmets, using seatbelts, following speed limits, avoiding drunk driving, and respecting traffic rules. By targeting both drivers and pedestrians, the initiative hopes to build a culture of road discipline and save lives.
As part of the campaign, traffic police personnel have set up naka points (checkpoints) across the city to monitor over-speeding, check seatbelt and helmet compliance, and stop drunk driving. Awareness messages are being displayed on LED screens at traffic junctions and social media platforms are being used to reach a wider audience.
Educational institutions in Chandigarh are also being involved. Students will participate in road safety workshops, poster-making competitions, and awareness rallies to spread the message of safe driving to their families and neighborhoods.
Chandigarh’s UT Administration has assured full support for this campaign, with coordination from various government departments, NGOs, and citizen groups. Officials highlighted that such campaigns are not just about imposing challans (fines) but about changing behavior so that accidents can be prevented in the first place.
The Police Department has appealed to all Chandigarh residents to cooperate with traffic police during this period and strictly follow traffic rules. The ultimate goal is to make Chandigarh a “Zero Accident City” by reducing preventable road crashes.
Speaking about the campaign, a senior police officer said, “Our mission is to save lives. Every traffic rule exists to protect citizens. If everyone follows basic road discipline, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies and make Chandigarh a model city for road safety.”
The ‘Safe Drive 2025’ campaign under ‘Seva Pakhwada’ is expected to create long-lasting awareness and encourage people to take responsibility for their actions on the road. By working together, the police and the public hope to make Chandigarh’s roads safer, not just during this campaign, but throughout the year.
