Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Monday announced that the unveiling of Bhagat Singh’s statue would take place on December 4, with a special team from Bangalore coming for the purpose. Earlier in the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were detained while on their way to Mohali airport to protest against the delayed unveiling of martyr Bhagat Singh’s statue.
BJP Punjab vice-president Kewal Dhillon, Fateh Jang Bajwa and Dr Subhash Sharma, state general secretary Anil Sarin, state media head Vineet Joshi, BJP Mohali district president Sanjiv Vashisht and former MP Sushil Rinku marched towards the Mohali airport to unveil the statue themselves. However, they were detained while lodging a peaceful protest.
The BJP had earlier given an ultimatum of 72 hours to the AAP-led Punjab government for unveiling the statue. The BJP had been demanding that the martyr’s statue be given due importance.
