India is working hard on artificial intelligence (AI) and making big progress in 2025. From Punjab’s young tech fans to projects across the country, AI is bringing new ideas and jobs that could change things for everyone.

IndiaAI Mission: A Big Plan with Lots of Money

Last year, in March 2024, India started the IndiaAI Mission with Rs 10,371.92 crore. Recently, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw showed off a new online tool called the IndiaAI Compute Portal. It’s super strong—better than some tools in China—and helps people build AI in India. For Punjab, this means our students and small businesses can use it to do big things.

The plan also includes setting up AI labs in 27 cities. Some might come near Punjab, helping with farming, health, and schools—things that matter here. “This is great for Punjab kids,” said Rajveer Singh, a tech worker from Chandigarh. “We can show the world what we’ve got.”

PM Modi Says India is Key for AI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is excited about AI. On a podcast with Lex Fridman, he said, “AI needs India to be complete.” He believes India’s smart people can make AI that works for real life. He’s making sure everyone gets the tools they need. In Punjab, this could help farmers use AI to grow better crops.

Punjab Joins the AI Fun

In Punjab, people are getting ready. Colleges here want to teach AI, like a new program in Andhra Pradesh with Microsoft that trains 10,000 students. Soon, places like Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar might get the same chance.

Modi says AI could bring lots of money—lakhs of crores—to India. The 2025 budget gave Rs 500 crore for AI schools and studies. Punjab’s tech jobs could grow as companies look here for workers and ideas.

Some People Aren’t Sure About AI

Not everyone loves the AI talk. Narayana Murthy, who helped start Infosys, said at a Mumbai event that some companies call old stuff “AI” to sound cool. In Punjab, small businesses agree—it’s hard to make real AI without more help.

What’s Coming Next?

India’s AI work isn’t done. The country wants to build its own big AI system and team up with companies like Microsoft. It’s trying to be as good as the U.S. and China. For Punjab, it’s time to learn and join in. “The world is watching India,” said a local AI fan. “Punjab has to step up!”
